IPBES call for fellows for the methodological assessment on monitoring biodiversity and nature’s contributions to people

The IPBES Plenary has announced a call for fellows for the methodological assessment on monitoring biodiversity and nature’s contributions to people, as such providing an opportunity for early-career individuals in the field of biodiversity and environmental sciences.

The primary objective of this assessment is to bolster both global and national efforts in monitoring biodiversity, nature’s contributions to people, and the underlying causes of observed changes. It also aims to closely track progress towards the ambitious goals and targets outlined in the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework, aligning with the Convention on Biological Diversity.

Furthermore, this assessment holds a critical role in the monitoring of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, its Sustainable Development Goals, and other pertinent multilateral environmental agreements and initiatives.

The IPBES Fellowship Programme, a cornerstone of the IPBES capacity-building initiatives, is tailored for early-career professionals keen to immerse themselves in the world of IPBES. Selected fellows will actively contribute to the preparation of the assessment chapter they are assigned to, with their contributions duly recognised as part of the chapter citation. They will engage in author meetings, receive comprehensive training to delve into IPBES assessment processes and the science-policy interface, and benefit from mentorship throughout the assessment period.
