A newly-published EuropaBON article is now available in the Diversity and Distributions journal. Co-authored by W. Daniel Kissling of the University of Amsterdam and a leader of EuropaBON’s team on co-design of monitoring system, the paper serves as a commentary to a recent perspective paper that proposed ’10 variables’ to measure vegetation structure from airborne laser scanning for assessing species distributions and habitat suitability.
The publication takes a close look at the proposed variables and raises some pivotal concerns. While the authors criticise the list, they also explain why it lacks some crucial information and advocate for a better defined, more comprehensive and more balanced list.
