Open position for a Biodiversity Monitoring and Policy expert

iDiv and the Helmholtz Centre for Environmental Research – UFZ offer a position in the field of Biodiversity Monitoring and Policy as part of EuropaBON.

To develop essential biodiversity and ecosystem variables workflows that are policy relevant, EuropaBON is built around stakeholder engagement and knowledge exchange. EuropaBON is working with stakeholders at the regional, national and European level to identify user and policy needs for biodiversity monitoring aligned with the new European Green Deal and investigates the feasibility of setting up a center to coordinate monitoring activities across Europe.

Tasks:

  • Development of consultation for biodiversity monitoring coordination centre in Europe through online surveys and/or interviews;
  • Lead production of synthesis report;
  • Development and coordination of international EuropaBON stakeholder workshop; participation in regular EuropaBON meetings and networking events;
  • Contribution to relevant high-level policy and practice reports and journal publication.

Requirements:

  • University degree in biology, environmental science, environmental policy or in a relevant subject area, ideally with a PhD or extensive experience in a consultative or advisory role;
  • Knowledge in biodiversity monitoring and related policies;
  • Experience in participatory stakeholder interaction;
  • Experience in online surveys and/or interviews desirable;
  • Experience in scientific publications;
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills in English (German appreciated);
  • High motivation and very good organizational skills, interest to work in interdisciplinary team and ability to liaise with a variety of stakeholders essential.
