Develop a common roadmap for biodiversity monitoring in the EU
The meeting will commence on May 26th with a high-level policy event in the morning with speakers from the European Commission, the European Environment Agency, EuroStat, the Joint Research Council and National representatives. The afternoon sessions will delve into biodiversity data users and providers needs, challenges and solutions with keynote talks and discussions. May 27th and 28th will dive more deeply into the topic with working sessions on mapping the biodiversity monitoring landscape and creating a roadmap for biodiversity monitoring.
A particular focus of the event is to align with the needs of European policy and key strategic objectives, including the European Green Deal, the EU Biodiversity Strategy for 2030, BiodivERsA, the Horizon 2020 and the Horizon Europe work programmes. The H2020 EuropaBON project aims to engage stakeholders at the regional, national and European level to identify the data needs of policies and targets aligned with the aforementioned new European Green Deal. Recognising that there is a critical need for European biodiversity monitoring schemes to be standardized, more effective, less costly and better integrated into European biodiversity policies, EuropaBON will investigate the feasibility of setting up a Biodiversity Monitoring Coordination Centre in Europe.
The deadline for registration has been extended to the 25th of May.
